President- Farhad Alikozai
Hey guys my name is Farhad Alikozai and I am a double major in Biological Sciences and Cultural Anthropology (exciting stuff right?). I am a die-hard nba fanatic who LOVES the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers (and of course my boy Mr. D-Wade)!! I like to play all kinds of sports but I especially love to play basketball and run track. I also love to listen to all kinds of music, ranging from artists such as Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber all the way to Keak Da Sneak, Juvenile, and Dre. Speaking of rap music, one thing a lot of people are surprised to find out about me is that I love to freestyle rap! I'm also obsessed with Zelda Ocarina of Time for the N64 system---I've beaten it 13 times already! I'm really easy to approach and I honestly can't wait to get to know each and everyone of you guys this year =] Among the many goals Helping Hearts for the Homeless plans to accomplish during this year, I feel that one of the most important ones is simply making students aware that homelessness is a very real and serious issue that exists in all parts of the world- whether we see it or not. Although we as students at UCI may not see homeless individuals during the course of our daily lives, there are millions of people that are homeless who are not sure when their next meal will come- a difficult circumstance that may be hard for many of us to truly comprehend. I've had many unforgettable and life-changing experiences during our trips to Skid Row in Los Angeles and I hope you guys will join us in making a difference. Helping others has really become a passion of mine and hopefully through this club many of you guys will find the same for yourselves =]
Vice President- Ahsan (Sunny) Ahmad
My name is Sunny Ahmad and I am a Biological Sciences major in my fourth year at UCI. My primary interests are watching TV and playing sports such as football and basketball. Some other things I like to do in my free time is playing video games such as Halo and just kicking it with my friends. When it comes to food, my favorites are pizza and chinese food, I just can’t get enough of Panda Express. I like to think of myself as a very relaxed and caring person who is willing to do anything for my friends. My goal this year for Helping Hearts for the Homeless is to make our club one of the most active clubs on campus and a rich, rewarding experience for all of our club members. We of Helping Hearts for the Homeless will do our best to help make the lives of those people wandering the streets of Orange and Los Angeles County much more better by providing them with food and loving care.
Vice President- Reina Tan
Hello my dear friends :] My name is Reina Tan, and I am currently a Junior studying Psychology and Education. It is such a privilege that I will be able to serve you guys this year, and I am truly excited to get to know each and every one of you guys!! A few interesting facts about me: 1) My ultimate favorite food is EGGPLANT :P 2) I absolutely love to sing my heart out and listen to music :] 3) I am totally obsessed with Social Injustice and spreading the word about it!! 4) And I love people, all types of people <3 It is a passion of mine to help the homeless wherever I go, and I think it is such a privilege that we have so much to give to those who are less fortunate. Because we have so much, why not use to better this world?? Being around the homeless have always brought me so much joy to my heart by listening to their stories, understanding the world better, and just learning to better appreciate all that we have, and I hope for those of you who join us would feel the same joy I do whenever we are able to touch someone's life and as they touch our lives. Being homeless may be such a distant reality for so many of us, but as we go out to LA and other places, it is a reality for many people who live so close to us!! I hope that this year I will be able to help you guys realize that this is a true reality for so many people and learn to develop a compassionate and humble heart as we go out to serve them. I absolutely can't wait to get to know each of you guys, so please don't ever hesitate to ask me anything :]
Activities Director- Alex Workman
Hello, my name is Alex Workman and I am a 4th year Biological Sciences Major. My favorite sports to watch are the NBA (Lakers) and MLB ( Angels). I also enjoy playing basketball, football, and golf even though it is considered an old man sport. Some of my favorite books include the Harry Potter series and the Lord of the RIngs series. When I am not studying I enjoying playing video games or just watching some TV. A random fact about me, is that I won my 8th grade spelling bee and participated in Orange County's spelling bee that year. The reason I am in the this club is because I truly want to help the homeless. Around my house and even at my local library, there is a large number of homeless people whom have very little to no food, shelter, etc. I have volunteered at homeless shelters and it really is a great feeling to give someone as simple as food, water or a blanket. I hope everyone who joins will be committed because if we can change one life for the better, than we have done our job.
Treasurer- Sanket (Sunny) Meghpara
Hey guys! I am Sanket but most people like to call me Sunny. I am currently a 4th year Biological Sciences major. I am a very easy going, approachable and friendly person who loves to play Badminton and is a Vice President of the UCI Badminton Club. I came from India six years ago and I speak 3 languages -- English, Gujarati, and Hindi. I love singing/rapping while driving so if you find yourself in my car, you will know what I mean. I am hands-down Orlando Magic Fan!!! I have played Varsity for both Badminton and Tennis in High School. I love playing Call Of Duty, Halo, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc. I have a crush on Selena Gomez and think Selena Gomez is too good for Justin Bieber. Something that you may not know about me would be that I am a vegetarian since the day I was born but I accidentally tried meat before. I want to be in this club because when I lived in Santa Monica, I've seen lot of homeless people everyday and so it always had me think about their daily life and how can I influence them. By being in this club, I will be able to take the initiative to help the homeless people and try to be the difference in their lives!
Jessica Chu- Publicity Officer
Hey there, my name is Jessica Chu and I’m a second year Biological Sciences-soon-to-be-PSB major. My childhood dream was always to become a veterinarian, but as of now, I honestly have no idea what I want to do with my life! I can be shy at first, but once you get to know me, you’ll realize there isn’t much you can’t talk to me about! I don’t mind getting my hands dirty and I love experiencing/exploring new things and places. I absolutely adore animals and just being surrounded by nature. In my spare time, I enjoy baking and cooking food for my family. Oh, and I love to eat; my stomach is literally a bottomless pit. Photography is also one of my hobbies. Running is a passion of mine; I ran cross country and track throughout high school, though unfortunately, I have become quite the sloth since college started. Before I joined Helping Hearts, I never realized that a simple “Hi” or “Hello” could literally make such a profound and positive impact on a person’s life. Through this club, I am hoping to raise awareness about the severity of homelessness and to inspire others to spend time—even if only a few minutes—helping others in need. What we take for granted in our every day lives could very well make the difference between living and surviving for another person.
Steven Bui- Publicity Officer
Hey guys! My name is Steven Bui and I’m currently a sophomore majoring in biological sciences but I’m hoping I will be able to change my major to chemical engineering by the end of this year. In my spare time you’ll either find me sleeping, playing tennis or playing the piano, but mostly sleeping. I love to eat anything that doesn’t have vegetables in it since I’m not too big on vegetables. I love to meet new people so new members please don’t hesitate to say hi. I’m a go with the flow kind of person and very easy to get along with! Helping Hearts for the Homeless is definitely my favorite club and I hope everyone this year that joins also learns to love the club and obtain some unforgettable experiences. I learned a lot from joining this club and I have definitely learned not to take anything I have for granted. The people I have met are all great people and I’ve learned a lot from them. My goal this year is to definitely get more people involved and active in this club.
